Stay in and work out with FitFest

The Warrnambool City Council is teaming up with 12 local health and fitness businesses to host the city's first virtual fitness festival.

FitFest will begin on Saturday August 22 with free workout videos posted online covering a wide range of training types including yoga, boxing, meditation, martial arts, cardio and more.

The videos will be online for a week, giving everyone time to try a few different workouts at home.

Warrnambool Mayor Tony Herbert said that the idea was to give people the chance to get involved in a few different types of exercise to see what works for them while highlighting the range of fitness options that exist in Warrnambool.

"A lot of people are using this second period of Stage Three Restrictions as an opportunity to try something new, and exercising more is at the top of many people's lists," he said.

"One of the best ways to stick with a new exercise routine is to find something you enjoy, so this is the perfect way to have a go at a few activities to see what works best for you.

"There's never been more variety when it comes to fitness offerings in Warrnambool, and our city is home to some very talented and dedicated fitness professionals.

"While the physical gyms and exercise spaces have had to close for now, many businesses are finding innovative ways to connect with their members and help them to keep exercising at home.

"We all know the importance of exercise for your physical health, but now more than ever, it's vitally important to look after your mental health too.

"Exercise is a proven way to improve your mood, reduce stress and improve your memory.

"There will be different sessions available to suit people of different fitness levels, but if this is your first time exercising for a while, maybe just touch base with your GP first."

Participating businesses include AquaZone, CrossFit Warrnambool, Kimberly Erin Yoga, Hiit Nation, Lyndo's Boxing, Adrenalin Martial Arts, Snap Warrnambool, Momentum Fitness, Pause Warrnambool, Great Ocean Healing Centre Yoga, Michelle Steere and Ultimate Performance & Rehab

All of the videos will be published at www.warrnambool.vic.gov.au/fitfest on Saturday August 22.
