Adelaide's vibrant East End will come alive from 14 February, with the annual Fringe Opening Night Party launching a fun-filled, month-long celebration of the very best South Australia has to offer.
South Australia Police urge revellers to exercise care, look after their property, and be patient in the coming weeks, as concurrent events draw thousands of diverse visitors to the CBD.
The city's East End has once again been proclaimed a Declared Public Precinct, meaning SA Police will have additional powers in the region bounded by Grenfell St, Bartels Rd, Dequetteville Tce, Botanic Rd, Frome Rd and King William Rd until Sunday 15 March, or declared otherwise.
During the period Friday 14 February to Sunday 15 March, any person or group deemed to pose a risk to public safety may be ordered to leave the precinct.
In particular police will be able to order people – either individually or in a group - to leave the defined area if their behaviour is posing a risk to public order and safety.
"The safety and enjoyment of visitors attending the city during this period is our foremost priority," said Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan Operations Service, Paul Dickson.
"Our city is a busy, exciting place to be throughout February and March. We need each and every person visiting to play their part in ensuring it's a safe place to be.
"In particular, we'd ask that drivers exercise courtesy and patience, given higher than usual volumes of vehicle and foot traffic.
"When you're out and about, please keep a close eye on your property. Don't leave bags unattended or valuable items on display in your vehicle.
"Finally, we urge all Festival goers to party safely. Don't drink excessively, and plan ahead to ensure you get home safely", said Assistant Commissioner Dickson.
The free Adelaide Fringe Opening Night and Tindo Utpurndee (Sunset Ceremony) get underway from 6pm (this evening) at Rymill Park/Mullawirraburka on East Terrace.
"SA Police will deploy a highly-visible presence over the coming weeks, including bicycle and foot patrols, Mounted Operations, Dog Operations and Road Policing officers," Assistant Commissioner Dickson said.
"Help us to ensure public safety, and preserve the inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere of the Festival season.
"Police would like to remind the public to report suspicious behaviour via the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or in an emergency please call Triple Zero."
