Staying Safe And Connected This Community Safety Month

Join our Family Fun Day this October, get up to speed on scams, and pop in to a community safety pop-up.

Community Safety Month lets us highlight that everyone has a part to play in keeping ourselves and our community safe.

Local Area Commander, Inspector Sandy McIver, says September's Neighbourhood Policing Forum was a valuable chance to hear about community concerns and update residents on local policing priorities.

'We're aware that incidents like aggravated burglary and theft from vehicles can have a significant impact on individuals and families, causing concern and disruption,' she says. 'We'll continue to address these issues through targeted operations.'

While Boroondara has one of the lowest crime rates in metropolitan Melbourne, the latest crime statistics (available at time of going to print) showed an increase in the year to March. This serves as an important reminder of the things you can do.

What you can do

Protect: Burglars are opportunists who seek easy targets. So always lock your doors, windows and vehicles whether you're home or not.

Connect: Join a local Neighbourhood Watch group to meet neighbours, get advice about local issues and feel safer. Visit nhw.com.au or email

Learn: Come to one of our scam awareness sessions or take the kids to the Emergency Services Family Fun Day or our safety-themed storytime.

Report: If you've been burgled, report it through the Police Assistance Line (131 444) or online reporting service. For urgent police help, always call triple zero (000).
