Step Closer To Cheaper Power For Tasmanians

Tasmanian Government

In a major milestone for the project, the Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC) has granted a planning permit for Stage 1 of the North West Transmission Developments.

The permit grants approval for TasNetworks to develop the project land associated with Stage 1 of the Transmission Developments, taking Tasmanians one step closer to delivering Project Marinus.

Acting Minister for Energy and Renewables, Guy Barnett, welcomed the TPC's decision.

"The community can have confidence that through the TPC the North West Transmission Development has been appropriately scrutinised ahead of construction starting," the Minister said.

"Project Marinus will support the future growth in our economy, deliver lower electricity prices than without it, and will increase our energy security.

"The next step for this project is the Federal Government's EPBC tick-off, and we eagerly await their decision.

"Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, taking action to ensure our state remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family."
