February 15, 2019 – Chapleau, ON — Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario — FedNor

The residents and businesses of the Township of Chapleau will benefit from new investment and growth opportunities thanks to a Government of Canada investment of more than $120,000. This FedNor investment will enable the municipality to revitalize its downtown core, generate new economic activity and provide new space for potential mining supply and service-related businesses.

The announcement was made today by the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor.

In line with the community's 2014-2019 Strategic Plan and 2016 Mining Readiness Strategy, this project will help the Township contract the professional services required to undertake planning, design and engineering activities to support capital infrastructure upgrades to its downtown core. Activities will include the development of detailed designs and engineering schematics, construction cost estimates, and the creation of a capital funding strategy.

"Our government is committed to providing communities, such as the Township of Chapleau, with the tools they need to grow the regional economy, attract investment, and create middle-class jobs for Canadians. This FedNor investment will help the community follow through on many of its strategic development goals and take the next steps toward the creation and expansion of many new and existing businesses."
