The police helicopter assisted with the arrest of a rider on a stolen motorbike overnight.
At 8pm Sunday 8 December, Northern District patrols spotted a Suzuki dirt bike with no number plates on Hamblynn Road, Elizabeth Downs and when the rider saw police, he allegedly failed to stop.
In an unfortunate turn of events for the rider, PolAir was overhead and began tracking the bike as it travelled throughout the northern suburbs. It will be alleged that the rider rode at dangerous speeds during his journey and at times travelled on the incorrect side of the road.
After about 30 minutes, the rider stopped and entered a home on Burcombe Street, Elizabeth Vale where patrols attended and located the rider inside.
The motorbike was also found at the address, with checks confirming it had been stolen from Smithfield Plains during November.
The 34-year-old man from Munno Para West was arrested and charged with speed dangerous, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified and other traffic offences. He was granted bail to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 20 January.
The stolen motorbike was seized by police.
Anyone who witnessed the motorbike riding or has dashcam or CCTV footage is asked to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or free call 1800 333 000.
