Stolen Motor Vehicle Crashes into House – Brent Street in Glenorchy, TAS

Glenorchy CIB Detectives are investigating an incident where a stolen motor vehicle crashed into a house in Brent St Glenorchy in the early hours of Monday Morning.
On Sunday night, 16 October 2016, between 7pm and 11:30pm, a 2005 Silver Mazda utility was stolen from Bathurst Street, Richmond.
On Monday morning, 17 October, about 4:30am, the utility was set alight on the road-side in Hassell Place, Glenorchy. The vehicle then rolled approximately 80 metres down Hassell Place and directly across Brent Street, crashing through a low boundary fence and coming to rest in a front room of a Brent Street residence.
Considerable structural damage was caused to the front room of the residence as a result of the collision. The vehicle was destroyed as a result of the fire.
The occupants of the residence were not harmed.
The quick action of the Firefighters from the Tasmania Fire Service resulted in the vehicle fire being extinguished and further damage to the house prevented.
During the course of the investigation, it has also been reported that a red and white Yamaha TT600 motorcycle was stolen overnight from the front yard of a nearby Brent Street residence. Police later recovered the stolen motorcycle in Dewdrop Court, Glenorchy, Tasmania Police say.

Both matters are being investigated by Glenorchy CIB Detectives and they would like to
speak with anyone who may have seen any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity in
Bathurst Street, Richmond and in the Hassell Place, Brent Street and Dewdrop Court
areas, Glenorchy on Sunday night – Monday morning.
