Stolen vehicle, arson - Pimlico

Police are investigating a vehicle arson which occurred outside a Cheyne Street, Pimlico address this morning.

At 5.15am, emergency services were called to a Cheyne Street address following reports a vehicle had been set alight.

On arrival police and emergency services found the vehicle fully engulfed by fire.

The vehicle has been identified as a grey 2018 Isuzu MU-X, stolen from a Rasmussen address on the evening of January 8, 2022.

Witnesses observed at least two people with the vehicle prior to and shortly after the vehicle was set alight. These men were collected by another vehicle (also believed to be stolen) shortly after the vehicle was set alight.

It is suspected the men attempted to steal another vehicle parked in the street nearby but were unsuccessful.

Police are seeking any witnesses to the vehicle arson or sightings of the vehicle involved in the time it was reported stolen (8 January 2022 - 12 January2022) who may be able to provide information to identify suspects in this matter.

Police Scenes of Crime have attended and conducted a forensic examination of the vehicle which was subject to the arson, as well as the second vehicle that the offenders attempted to steal prior to leaving the scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
