Stonnington unites under colour orange

Stonnington unites under the colour orange to respect women and call it out!

Over 600 Marigold flowers have been planted in the Malvern Gardens to mark the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence towards women.

Bright and optimistic, the colour orange represents hope and a future free from violence against women and girls.

City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Jami Klisaris, said "Gender inequality is one of the biggest drivers of violence against women and family violence, and despite significant progress, it continues to be a very real concern.

"During this campaign, we encourage our community to start the conversations about gender equality and respect and ask people to call out sexual harassment and disrespect towards women. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in their family and relationships."

From 25 November to 10 December 2021, the community can enjoy the stunning floral array as they wander through Malvern Gardens and consider what 'Respect Is…' or venture to Prahran Square to view The Pipes installation.

"I'm proud that the City of Stonnington is hosting a number of initiatives to create awareness during the campaign, including a sight and sound compilation featuring community voices with positive messages at Prahran Square," said Cr Klisaris.

City of Stonnington busses and trucks are also proudly displaying orange ribbons to support the message of gender equality and safety. We encourage you to think about how we can improve gender equality and create a more respectful society.

The 16 Days campaign is a United Nations initiative which calls on individuals, communities, and organisations to address gender inequalities and violence against women and girls around the world.
