Step into the timeless streets of Carlton and discover a suburb rich in style, stories and local flavour at Stories on Parade on Sunday 17 May.
From striking art deco architecture and treasured neighbourhood cafés to handmade fashion, artisan markets and global delicacies, this vibrant one-day celebration invites visitors to experience the hidden charm and creative spirit of Carlton.
Presented by Bayside Council in partnership with local businesses and cultural institutions, Stories on Parade will transform Carlton into a lively hub of heritage, culture and community connection.
The event also coincides with the opening day of Sydney Writers' Festival and features a special author talk on Miles Franklin at Shopfront Arts Co-op. Best known for her iconic novel My Brilliant Career, Miles Franklin once lived in Carlton, and new interpretive signage celebrating her life, literary legacy and local connection will be unveiled as part of the festivities.
Visitors can enjoy a packed program of attractions including self-guided historical displays, bustling market stalls, guided heritage walking tours, family-friendly entertainment, a petting zoo and performances by talented local artists.

Stories on Parade is delivered in collaboration with The Carlton School of Art, Shopfront Arts Co-op and St George Historical Society, alongside passionate local traders helping showcase the best of Carlton to the wider community.
This exciting initiative is proudly funded through the NSW Government's Community Improvement District Pilot Program led by Transport for NSW.
