Strong Progress For Gender Equality

A new report has been released showcasing work across government to progress Stronger Together.

Stronger Together: WA's Plan for Gender Equality launched in 2020 has now reached its halfway point. A new Mid-Point review details outcomes and impacts of the more than 140 actions undertaken to improve outcomes for women and girls in Western Australia.

Kristen Newman, Manager of Women's Strategic Policy, reflects on some of the important initiatives delivered by WA Government agencies to contribute to women's health and wellbeing, economic security and safety. Highlights include:

  • the Birthing and Growing on Country project which provides maternity services through a culturally safe Aboriginal model of care to support women and ensure that children receive the best start to life
  • training of first responders such as paramedics to recognise and respond appropriately to family and domestic violence
  • She{Codes} , which is a six-month training program designed to super-charge women's careers in coding and technology to prepare them for jobs of the future.

As we look forward to the next phase of Stronger Together, work is underway to develop the Third Action Plan.

"Reaching the mid-point of Stronger Together has been a valuable chance to take stock of what's working and where we need to focus next. The review shows just how much has been achieved through the commitment of teams right across government. It also reminds us that meaningful progress on gender equality takes time and sustained effort.

As we move into developing the Third Action Plan, we'll be drawing on the lessons from the past five years and continuing to work closely with partners across agencies," Kristen said.

The Mid-Point Review celebrates key highlights over the past five years across four priority areas - health and wellbeing, safety and justice, economic independence and leadership.
