Suburban Rail Loop preliminary works October 2020

The Suburban Rail Loop Authority will be doing more geotechnical investigations in Clayton to help with the planning and design work for Suburban Rail Loop.

The works will take place at several locations around the centre of Clayton, including underneath the elevated railway line and around the Remembrance Gardens. These works start this week (w/c 26 October) for up to three weeks.

The Clayton Activity Centre is earmarked for a Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) superhub station. The SRL will eventually connect every metropolitan train line from Cheltenham to Werribee. Stage one is Cheltenham to Box Hill, which also includes stations at Glen Waverley and Monash University (Clayton).

The Suburban Rail Loop Authority's geotechnical program involves drilling in areas near the proposed alignment for the south east section of Suburban Rail Loop to gain initial data and information about local ground conditions.

The works include:

  • Non-destructive digging (NDD), which involves using a vacuum truck to excavate carefully into the ground to confirm an area is free of services
  • Geotechnical drilling and testing to determine existing ground conditions. This involves drilling small diameter auger holes.

During the works:

  • Works will require the temporary use of car parks at each location for drilling works and support vehicles
  • Pedestrian, road, driveway and Remembrance Gardens access around work areas will be maintained at all times
  • Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to assist with pedestrian and vehicle access and wayfinding
  • There will be periods of medium level noise associated with non-destructive digging (NDD) and drilling works
  • Site compounds will be set up to enable these works to be carried out safely
  • Works will take place progressively and all areas will be reinstated at the completion of works.

A notification flyer has been distributed to surrounding residents and businesses around the site. Community enquiries can be referred to the Suburban Rail Loop contact centre number 1800 105 105.
