Successful 2021 Household Chemical Cleanout Event

Lithgow Council

Lithgow Council held a successful Household Chemical Cleanout Event on Sunday 9th May this year. 7,486 kilograms of household chemicals and hazardous materials were collected and consequently diverted from landfill during the event.

This annual event is a free service for residents organised by Netwaste and funded by the NSW EPA. It allows Lithgow LGA residents to drop off household chemicals and hazardous wastes that are then transported to licensed facilities for treatment and disposal by specialist waste contractors.

Lithgow has amazing and important natural assets, including its bushlands and waterways. Without correct disposal chemicals and hazardous wastes can easily end up in waterways, bushland or within waste landfill sites. Incorrect disposal causes long term impacts to vegetation and animal life.

Lithgow Council is committed to safeguarding the environment. Due to the efforts of the local community, Council has been able to properly dispose of more than 7 tonnes of hazardous waste!
