Successful Medivac - Kitchen Hut, Cradle Mountain

With clear skies and improved weather this morning the Westpac Rescue Helicopter reached Kitchen Hut around 8.30am and successfully evacuated all three of the injured walking party. They were taken to Dove Lake car park where Ambulance Tasmania have transported then via road to the Launceston General Hospital for ongoing treatment.

All emergency services are also clear of the area.

Police again remind those contemplating walking in remote areas of Tasmania that weather conditions are likely to change rapidly and without warning and they should be fully prepared for all scenarios whilst in the wilderness. This event is another timely reminder of the need to carry personal emergency communication equipment or satellite phones. Without the assistance of other walkers who possessed such equipment the matter could have resulted in more serious injuries or fatalities.
