Fifteen high school students have graduated from a NSW State Emergency Service youth training program.
The Hon Ben Franklin MLC (representing the Minister for Emergency Services, The Hon David Elliott MP) says the YETTIES program highlights the success of a new approach to attracting and retaining volunteers.
“It’s pleasing to see an increasing number of young people involved in emergency service organisations and deciding to volunteer for NSW SES.”
Now in its fourth year, YETTIES is an extension of the successful NSW SES cadets program offering young people a different pathway to volunteering and career development.

“This approach to volunteering broadens NSW SES capacity and capability,” says NSW SES Commissioner Kyle Stewart.
The YETTIES program was developed by NSW SES Ballina Unit in 2016. From the first intake, several graduates have gone on to join their local units. During the 10-week course participants gain various skills including teamwork, problem solving, first aid, flood awareness and other core skills.
