Sudan-born Man Charged In Victoria Over Visa Breaches

A Sudan-born man has appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court today (10 June, 2025), charged with failing to comply with his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 39, yesterday (9 June, 2025) after he was located in Melbourne. He is scheduled to re-appear before the same court tomorrow (11 June, 2025)

The man was charged with two counts of failing to ensure an electronic monitoring device remains in good working order, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

This offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine.
