Get ready for a summer full of family fun and adventure with the annual Big Summer Read competition.
For a chance to win great prizes, Big Summer Read participants need to log at least 10 books between 1 December and 3 February 2026. These can be enjoyed independently, by reading out loud or as audiobooks.
The campaign has grown to become Australia's largest public library-supported reading challenge, engaging young people in reading for pleasure and supporting literacy development.
Bayside's top readers this year could score incredible prizes the whole family will love. They can take home a Nintendo Switch, awesome Lego sets, book packs, cute plushies, a Luna Park family pass or vouchers to the Museum of Play and Art (MOPA). There are also exciting statewide prizes up for grabs.
Beaumaris siblings Noah and Izzy are annual participants and are gearing up for another summer of reading.
"My sister and I do the Big Summer Read challenge every year," said Noah. "I go camping with Dad over summer and we both enjoy reading together. My favourites are sports biographies and Harry Potter."
Izzy added, "The prizes look great this year! I love the Babysitters Club and Rebel Girls series."
Noah and Izzy's mum TJ said she is keen for her children to continue reading over the summer break to maintain good habits.
"During the school year, reading can be seen as homework," said TJ. "I love that over the holidays, we can read for pure pleasure and take our time reading books we enjoy or try something new."
