Supplying dangerous drugs to minors at Cairns

A 49-year-old Parramatta Park man has been charged with 14 offences including supplying dangerous drugs to minors, indecent treatment of a child under 16 and grooming a child under 16, following investigations into several incidents in the Cairns area since January 2022.

It will be alleged two teenage girls were supplied cannabis, methylamphetamine and cigarettes on several occasions between January 2022 and March 2022.

Methylamphetamine is a schedule one drug which, if supplied to a minor, carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

It will be further alleged on one of those occasions, the man exposed himself.

Yesterday, Tuesday March 22, police executed a search warrant at a Lumley Street address, where a 49-year-old man was taken into custody.

He was subsequently charged with six counts of supplying dangerous drugs to minor under 16 years, three counts of indecent treatment of child under 16 years, one count of supplier must not supply smoking products to children, two counts of grooming a child under 16 years, one count of possessing anything use in the commission of a crime and one count of possess utensils.

The man appeared in Cairns Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody. He is expected to next appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on May 18.
