Supporting Local Jobs: Local Contractors Awarded $2.2 million for Katherine Showgrounds Upgrades

Upgrades to the Katherine Showgrounds and Multi-Purpose Centre are one-step closer with tenders awarded to four local companies for civil and yard building works as part of the Territory Labor Government's investment in Katherine.

The $2.2 million investment to upgrade amenities, roads, air conditioning, rodeo and campdraft infrastructure and water, power and sewerage connections at the Showgrounds will support 20 local jobs and provide a welcome boost to Katherine businesses.

Four local contractors will provide the upgrades; Fletcher's Plumbing and Gas Fitters for plumbing upgrades, All Regions Electricals for electrical upgrades, Remote Civil for loop road and service road works and Katherine Constructions for general building works.

The Territory Labor Government continues to work in partnership with the Katherine Town Council to ensure that the funding supports the community's key priorities.

As stated by Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Eva Lawler:

"The Territory Labor Government continues to invest in the Territory's community assets because we know they build vibrant communities, boost the economy and create local jobs.

"Our investment in this project is supporting four Katherine businesses and 20 local jobs.

"As a much-loved and well-used community asset, it's crucial that the Katherine Showgrounds and Multi-Purpose Centre are maintained and upgraded to continue to provide a quality experience for the community."

As stated by Member for Katherine, Sandra Nelson:

"The Katherine Show Grounds and Multi-Purpose Centre is a major community facility and home to popular community and sporting events – these works will ensure the Katherine community has modern and updated facilities we can all enjoy.

"The upgrades are providing opportunities for local tradies, which means jobs for Territorians – a key priority of our Government."
