More Australians from remote and regional areas will be supported to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The Morrison Government is increasing the number of scholarships available through the Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships Program.
Up to $18,000 is available to support Australians in rural, regional and remote areas to study STEM at university or through Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Minister for Education Dan Tehan said scholarship applications were now open.
"The Morrison Government has committed $58.1 million for more than 3,150 scholarships for regional and remote Australians to study science, technology, engineering or mathematics," Mr Tehan said.
"More than 45 per cent of people aged 25-34 have a bachelor degree or higher qualification in our major cities, dropping to just 23 per cent in our regions in 2018.
"Our Government believes that every Australian should have the opportunity to get a university degree or a VET qualification, no matter where they live.
"Our Government can pay for more scholarships for regional and remote Australia because we are keeping the economy strong."
The first round of the scholarship program has already helped 504 regional and remote students to commence study in 2018.
Applications close on Friday 1 February 2019 and offers will be made on 11 February 2019.
