Shekinah House will be able to expand services to the homeless and disadvantaged with funding through the 2025-26 Tasmanian Budget.
Shekinah House is a Launceston-based charity that assists people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or socially and financially disadvantaged.
Liberal Member for Bass, Rob Fairs, said the Budget is building Tasmania, now and for the future.
"This Budget delivers on the things that matter, with $100,000 invested in Shekinah House to upgrade and expand services for the homeless and disadvantaged," Mr Fairs said.
"Since 2014 Shekinah House has supported Tasmanians who need it most by providing practical services and supports, including food relief. For the past five years, Shekinah House has also provided free showers and laundry facilities.
"I want to commend Louise and her team of more than 50 volunteers for the extraordinary work they do in our community every day."
Independent Member for Bass, Rebekah Pentland, said Shekinah House is a lifeline for so many Tasmanians, and this funding is a meaningful step in helping them do even more for those in crisis.
"Homelessness is not a headline, it's a human experience, and organisations like Shekinah House are on the frontline every day offering dignity, support and hope," Mrs Pentland said.
"I've seen first-hand the care and compassion Louise and her team bring to their work.
"This is exactly the kind of grassroots, community-driven initiative that should be at the heart of budget priorities, practical, people-focused, and making a real difference."
Shekinah House founder Louise Cowen said we are delighted to receive this State Government funding.
"It is such a wonderful affirmation of the hard work our volunteers do each and every week to alleviate some of the hardship and suffering of some of our most vulnerable community members," Ms Cowen said.
"This investment in our work also means our amazing team will be able to concentrate our future fundraising efforts towards raising the deposit for the purchase of a building to be able to offer accommodation services."
Mr Fairs said the Tasmanian Government was doing what matters most by investing in community services.
"This funding for infrastructure upgrades is in addition to the $10,000 grant provided to Shekinah House through our Tasmanian Community Food Relief Grants Program 2025.
"This Budget addresses the things that matter to our community, such as cost of living, health and housing."
