Survey shows committed staff and positive engaged culture at Wollondilly

Wollondilly Council

A commitment to the Wollondilly community and a positive highly engaged culture are just some of the highlights identified in a recent Wollondilly Shire Council staff survey.

Culture is key driver for the success of any organisation, with high staff engagement translating directly to more commitment, enthusiasm, wellbeing and ultimately higher performing staff delivering higher quality services for the community.

Wollondilly engages an independent provider to conduct regular staff surveys and this year's result demonstrates a huge leap forward on previous results.

"Our people are very proud to serve the Wollondilly community and have worked hard to build this culture together," said CEO Ben Taylor.

"It is a culture of integrity, shared values, and most importantly a willingness to go above and beyond for our Shire and community."

Some key highlights of the recent survey include:

  • Overall, staff engagement is the top 10% of 50 benchmarked Councils, at 72% favourable (agree or strongly agree with the questions), up significantly from 2019.
  • Council had a very high participation rate of 85%, compared to an average rate for other organisations 65%, demonstrating a commitment to a bright future for Wollondilly.
  • All major engagement questions have increased and the majority are in the top 10% of benchmarked Councils.
  • Staff will go above and beyond in their service for the community, are proud to work at Wollondilly Shire Council and believe that Council cares about and is committed to them. Critically, trust amongst staff is high and continues to build, and staff see a fulfilling future for themselves at Council.

'I happily go the extra mile to help Wollondilly Shire Council succeed' was the highest rating response at 84%, demonstrating the strong service culture and commitment to the Shire.

"Council set staff engagement as a key performance measure for our CEO because we care about staff wellbeing and because increased engagement translates directly to increased performance and improved services," said Mayor Robert Khan.

"Thank you to all our staff on behalf of the Council for everything you do for our community."

Wollondilly staff are continuing to work hard together to build the strong cultural foundations needed to build a higher performing organisation, to deliver better quality services for the growing community.
