Suspicious boat fire, NSW

Police are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed three boats in Nelson Bay this morning, NSW Police say.

About 2.40am (Wednesday 8 August 2018), emergency services were called to D’albora Marina on Teramby Road, following reports three boats were on fire.

When police arrived, they found three vessels well alight.

The blaze was extinguished by crews from Fire & Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service.

As a result, all three vessels were destroyed, with two sinking.

Two boats moored nearby were also extensively damaged.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District, with assistance from the Marine Area Command and Marine Rescue, remain at the scene to manage the removal of debris from the water.

An investigation into the incident has been launched, however police are treating the fire as suspicious.
