Suspicious Person Arrest in Broome, WA

Broome Detectives have charged a man after a series of incidents yesterday morning, Friday 16 September 2016, which occurred in the vicinity of two schools in the general Broome area.

About 7:40am WA Police received a report of a man acting in a suspicious manner in the vicinity of two schools. Information received was that he had approached a number of young female students who were on their way to school. Those students reported the man’s behaviour to school staff, who immediately contacted WA Police, WA Police say.

Broome Police attended the area and located a man matching the description provided by the girls involved. The man was arrested and taken into custody. Further inquiries were made with the students involved.

It will be alleged the man approached at least four girls aged between 11 and 13 years old, on three separate occasions between 7:00am and 7:45am. It will be further alleged the man attempted to engage them in conversations that were not appropriate, and in one case touched the hand of one of the girls.

A 26 year old man from Cable Beach has been charged with several offences, including two counts of Indecent Dealings with Child Under 13 Years. He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Broome Magistrates Court today, Saturday 17 September 2016.
