Approximately 6.00pm on Monday 31st December 2018, two buildings at 178 Vermont Road Mowbray were destroyed by fire. The property had been used as a timber mill and the fire destroyed a large quantity of timber and machinery. The fire also destroyed several vehicles on the property. The fire is estimated to have caused more than $500,000 damage, Tasmania Police say.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency services worked to protect adjacent properties. Superficial damage was caused to a nearby house. No persons were injured during the incident.
Detectives from the Northern Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the fire and following a specific line of enquiry. It is believed to have been deliberately lit.
