Sustainable Finance Label Policy Consultation Begins

Australian Treasury

The Albanese Government is asking for feedback on design options to improve product information for sustainable financial products.

We are releasing a consultation paper on the options to make it easier for investors to understand and trust the claims made by the product issuers.

The first consultation in August 2025 focussed on fundamental issues for a sustainable investment product labelling regime targeted at retail investors.

The feedback raised the need for consistency, transparency, flexibility and integrity in the labelling regime.

The consultation paper builds on these principles, seeking input on central design elements

Product labelling is a priority in the Sustainable Finance Roadmap, helping to mobilise capital to achieve net zero.

The objective of sustainable investment product labelling is to help investors understand the sustainability credentials of their investments and provide product issuers with more certainty when marketing a product as sustainable.

Insights from a wide range of stakeholders will help Government develop a proportionate, and targeted regime, ensuring the design is credible and usable.

This consultation will run from 13 February to 13 March .

The consultation paper is available on the Treasury consultation hub.
