Swan Hill Rural City Council is pleased to welcome the inaugural "Round Zero" of the Central Murray Football Netball League (CMFNL) to Swan Hill on Saturday, 28 March 2026.
The event marks the start of a new era for the league, which is welcoming five new clubs from the former Golden Rivers League in 2026. As a pre-season showcase ahead of Round 1, a strong crowd is expected, bringing many visitors to the region.
In a first for the region, Swan Hill FNC will host the rebranded Ultima Storm, and Tyntynder will host 2025 Golden Rivers senior football premiers the Hay Lions in home games at the same precinct, creating a full day of football, netball and entertainment.
Mayor Cr Stuart King said the event is a great opportunity to showcase Swan Hill.
"Sport is at the heart of our communities, bringing people together, supporting healthy lifestyles and creating a strong sense of local pride," Cr King said.
"Round Zero will deliver strong economic and community benefits, attracting visitors who will support our local businesses, accommodation providers and hospitality venues. The event further showcases the need for investment in our sporting facilities, and Council will continue to advocate for high-quality venues to ensure we can host events like this now and into the future," he added.
The day will feature football, and netball matches from morning through to a twilight senior football game, along with family-friendly entertainment, live music and special guest appearances, including former AFL umpire "Razor" Ray Chamberlain who will officiate in the Swan Hill v Ultima senior game.
Council encourages residents and visitors to come along and be part of this event.
