Lifeguard hours at the Eastern Beach precinct have been extended, meaning swimmers are protected every day this month.
Thanks to Life Saving Victoria receiving additional funding from the Victorian Government, the City has been able to increase lifeguard hours beyond what was first announced .
Instead of lifeguards patrolling the pool and dive tower only on weekends until Sunday 21 December, they are now also working on weekdays from 12pm - 5pm.
Summer holiday hours between Monday 22 December 2025 to Saturday 28 February 2026 will also see lifeguards monitoring from 10am - 7pm every day.
The pool and dive tower remain open without lifeguards outside of these hours.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM
The City is thrilled to offer extended lifeguard coverage at Eastern Beach this month.Safety is our top priority and this change means swimmers can enjoy the water with confidence every day of the week.
With extra support from the Victorian Government and Life Saving Victoria, we've been able to start weekday patrols earlier than planned.
This is great news for swimmers, given the precinct is identified as a high-risk area and drowning blackspot.
Councillor Eddy Kontelj
Residents and visitors can enjoy Eastern Beach knowing there is someone looking out for them. Our lifeguards are committed to keeping the community safe and this extension allows us to provide even greater protection during the busy lead-up to Christmas.
We encourage everyone to swim between the flags for a safe and enjoyable experience.
