City of Mount Gambier is switching off lights at The Riddoch Arts & Cultural Centre, Library, Vansittart Park, Lady Nelson Brig, and the Centenary Tower for one hour between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on 25 March to support Earth Hour 2023.
Earth Hour 2023 aims to raise awareness of the importance of trees to wildlife, local communities, and people's mental and physical wellbeing.
Turning lights off for Earth Hour is a symbolic gesture of solidarity in the global effort to protect the environment and I encourage the community to participate in their own home, Environmental Sustainability Officer Aaron Izzard said.
"City of Mount Gambier is actively seeking to reduce its emissions through a number of methods including the use of solar systems on facilities, energy-efficient lighting in Council buildings and installing landfill gas capture at Caroline Landfill."
Earth Hour has grown into the world's largest movement for the environment, with supporters in over 190 countries and territories since its inception in 2007.
One in three Australians are expected to take part in the symbolic switching-off lights in support of stronger climate action.

Some locations across the city will remain lit due to event commitments and to ensure community safety.
