Switch To Reusables And Win This Plastic Free July

Did you know that disposable coffee cups contain a plastic lining? That means they go straight to landfill!

As millions worldwide join Plastic Free July to reduce plastic pollution, Shellharbour City Council has launched a new campaign to combat single-use plastics locally.

Shellharbour's streets and screens will feature a series of funky educational animations, pop-up events and giveaways designed to encourage the community to talk trash.

Mayor Chris Homer urged the community to get involved and reduce plastic waste.

"Small changes can make a significant impact. With Australia set to phase out single-use plastics by 2025, it's time to adopt simple solutions that drive meaningful change," he said.

This week, Council has invited the community to join the fun by helping name three new animated characters representing common problem items found in general red waste bins.

"These new characters represent items that often confuse people about which bin they belong in," said Mayor Homer.

To learn more about this initiative and for your chance to win one of six prize packs, follow Shellharbour City Council on Facebook and Instagram. Plus, stay tuned for more ways to get involved!
