A Peakhurst man, fresh off the golf course, has struck it rich with a winning lottery ticket, bagging $1 million in the Monday & Wednesday Lotto.
The New South Wales resident was one of four national division one winners in draw 4339, held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
Upon receiving confirmation of his prize from lotto officials, the winner was in disbelief.
"You’re joking! I was not expecting this!” he exclaimed. He humorously noted his relief that the news hadn't reached him while he was playing golf, as it would have completely thrown off his game.
The lucky man, a long-time Lotto player for over two decades, shared that the most he had previously won was $600.
"I use the same numbers every time. I didn’t choose them for any particular reason, but they are certainly my lucky numbers now,” he said.
This win comes as a pleasant surprise after what he described as a 'hell of a year' for him and his wife.
“We’ve had a hell of a year between my wife and myself, so this is just unbelievable.
“She’s here with me now. We’re so excited.
When asked about plans for his newfound wealth, the winner admitted he was too overwhelmed to make immediate decisions but intended to share some of the prize with his children.
“I don’t know! We’re overwhelmed,” he shared.
“We’ll give some to the kids and then have a think about what else to do.”
The winning 14-game marked entry was purchased at Lugarno News & Post on Forest Road in Lugarno. The staff at the store expressed their joy at selling a division one winning ticket and extended their best wishes to their customer for his million-dollar windfall.
