Talk to us about hard waste collection

Kingston City Council is seeking feedback from the community on proposed changes to the hard waste collection service.

Traditionally Kingston has had one collection per year during September and October, however with many residents requesting more flexible options, we are reviewing the way this service is provided.

Consideration is currently being given to upgrading the hard waste collection service to two free, “on-demand” collections per financial year, with owners and tenants able to book the dates and times that suit them.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said the review of the hard waste service was part of significant work being done around waste, recycling and resource recovery, with a view to improving sustainability and promoting better environmental outcomes.

“While the hard waste disposal and recycling guidelines wouldn’t change under the proposal, we believe that expanding the service from one city-wide collection to two on-demand collections per year and introducing flexibility will reduce instances of illegal dumping across Kingston. In turn less waste will be sent to landfills and recycling will increase,” Cr Staikos said.
