Seventy-five people have been arrested following a targeted police operation in the Port Augusta CBD during September.
Operation Overboard commenced on 1 September and ran throughout the month, targeting shop theft and antisocial behaviour in and around the town's retail precincts.
Uniformed and plain clothes officers conducted high-visibility patrols and proactive policing activities focused on reducing offending and improving community safety.
The operation resulted in 75 arrests for a range of offences, including 22 theft-related matters.
As part of the operation, Crime Prevention Section officers also engaged with local business owners and community members to help strengthen relationships, provide crime prevention advice and support local initiatives aimed at reducing offending.
Police maintained a strong overt presence throughout the operation to reassure the community and deter criminal behaviour.
Far North Region Officer in Charge, Superintendent Josh Heinze, said the operation demonstrated police commitment to supporting local businesses and the wider community.
"We are focused on supporting the community, including businesses and the retail precinct, to help make Port Augusta a safe place to live, visit and do business," Superintendent Heinze said.
"Police encourage all businesses to report incidents of theft so we can identify trends, target offenders and hold people accountable for their actions."
Anyone wishing to report theft offences or antisocial behaviour can contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444. In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).
