Tasmania Police disrupts illicit drug supply with 31 arrests

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

The Hodgman Liberal Government makes no apology for being tough on crime and congratulates Tasmania Police on recently disrupting a multi-million dollar Tasmanian drug syndicate.

Tasmania Police worked with NSW Police, the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission to break this long-running and complex drug operation with 31 arrests and the seizure of drugs worth almost $3 million.

We know that illicit drugs cause addiction and misery in our communities and there is no safe level of consumption of these illegal drugs.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is proud to have restored the cuts of 108 police officers made by Labor and the Greens and we are delivering on our commitment of recruiting a further 125 police officers.

A strong police force helps to protect our communities and vulnerable Tasmanians, and this recent successful police operation is a reflection of the professionalism and abilities of Tasmania Police.
