Police are investigating damage caused in William Street, Devonport in the early hours of this morning.
The alleged offender caused damage to a business premises about 5am, before stealing a nearby gas meter.
Emergency services responded about 5:30am, after reports of a gas leak in the area. The scene was made safe soon after and no injuries were reported.
Police would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident, or the person responsible.
