The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is an enthusiastic supporter of Tasmanian sports clubs and the positive impact they have on promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Congratulations to the three Tasmanian clubs who were today named as national winners in the Good Sports Awards presented in Canberra.
The Redpa Football Club was crowned National Good Sports Club of the Year which is a tremendous achievement for this country footy club, while the Devonport Gymnastics Club (Healthy Minds Award) and the Glenorchy District Junior Football Club (Rookie Club of the Year) also picked up national awards.
The Redpa Football Club was rewarded for inspiring positive change and building a healthy, family friendly club by shifting the culture where alcohol was the key pillar of all events.
They hold regular alcohol free events, provide safe transport options at events where alcohol is consumed and they have implemented a smoking management policy.
Congratulations also to the Burnie Basketball Association, Riverside Cricket Club, Tasmania University Hockey Club and Alannah Duggan from Claremont Football Club for reaching the finals in their respective categories.
Community sports clubs are often the beating heart of rural and regional communities and they play a vital role in shaping healthy lifestyle choices within a supportive club atmosphere.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is right behind our community sports clubs which is why we help fund Good Sports in Tasmania, along with the Federal Government, which is managed by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.
Good Sports works with almost 10,000 community sports clubs across Australia and more than 400 in Tasmania to encourage systemic changes in club culture to promote positive health outcomes.
