Tasmanian Government

Guy Barnett, Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs

The Australian Bureau of Statistics has confirmed Tasmania's international trade in goods is at an all-time high.

The year to date in August 2026 saw $5.3bn in goods exported leave Tasmania's shores. This is a 16 per cent increase on the year before, or a $737 million increase.

Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, welcomed this strong yearly performance.

"Tasmania's global reputation is translating to economic gain," Minister Barnett said.

"This sustained and solid growth is the result of decades of strong collaboration across our entire island.

"We have built the brand - the world knows we're here and we have what they want.

"Tasmanians have worked alongside us - building businesses that manufacture, growing, digging and taking their products and people to the world.

"Our export values are growing, and we want to keep that moving in the right direction.

"Through our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we want to keep growing our international trade value to $15 billion by 2050."
