Under a Dean Winter Labor Government, every Tasmanian child will receive a $100 sports voucher to help ease the cost-of-living pressure on families and promote active, healthy habits for life.
This initiative will be funded by scrapping the Liberals' $10 million dinner voucher scheme, which was nothing more than a reckless thought bubble to make amends for the Spirits of Tasmania debacle.
Instead of making taxpayers fund dinners for a select group of Tasmanians, Labor is focusing on something far more important: the health and wellbeing of tens of thousands of Tasmanian young people.
The sports vouchers will cover any extracurricular sports activity outside of school hours - soccer, football, swimming, dance - you name it. This program will compliment the existing Ticket to Play program - not replace it.
With the rising cost of living, many families are struggling to cover the cost of these activities. Our sports vouchers will help relieve that pressure, making it easier for young people to stay active and engaged, while supporting parents who are feeling pressure on their household's budget.
By encouraging physical activity from an early age, we're not only giving young people the opportunity to be active, but also building a healthier, stronger community for the future and reduce long-term strain on our state's health system.
Labor is investing in the health and wellbeing of our children - the future of our state. This is part of our plan to make Tasmania a better place for young people.
After 11 years of the Liberals, the only way to get the fresh start Tasmania needs is to vote Labor.
