Tasmanian Firms Seek Energy Future Certainty, Labor Says

Tas Labor

The Rockliff Government and Energy Minister Guy Barnett's mishandling of the state's energy supply is an economic disaster for the state.

It is unprecedented that industry representatives are saying we are in an energy crisis and have come together to voice their concerns about being unable to access more supply.

Tasmania has hung its hat on generating renewable energy for the past century, but after 10 years of the Liberal Government, major industrials and businesses are cancelling their investments in the state.

Just yesterday a report from the Clean Energy Council showed that there have been no new renewable energy investments committed to the state in nearly five years while 190 have been secured in other states and territories.

It comes on the same day that Hudson Civil Projects and the Launceston Kitchen Centre shared they could not expand their operations and move their businesses to TRANSlink because the energy supply they were promised will not be available.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff and Minister Barnett are holding back our state and it is clear there is no long-term energy strategy.

A Labor Government will commit to resolving our energy challenges by capping power prices for households and small businesses while providing an energy rebate to larger businesses.

Our Tasmania-first Energy Policy will make it easier for wind farm projects to go ahead and support Tasmania's economic future to prosper.
