Organised by "Iuliu Hatieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Boğaziçi Üniversitesi, this Autumn School offers scientific and technical training in microsurgical techniques.
The NeurotechEU Autumn School on Advancements in Experimental Microsurgery establishes a high-level educational pipeline for microsurgical skill acquisition, bridging the technical gap between diverse academic backgrounds. Developed by "Iuliu Hatieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Boğaziçi Üniversitesi, the course includes an intensive hands-on curriculum in which participants progress from sub-millimetre Drosophila brain dissection to complex in vivo microvascular anastomoses in rat models. By integrating medicine, biology and neurotechnology, this joint program fosters a unified technical language, equipping students with the precision required for the future of neuroscientific interventions and translational research.
Program structure:
This course follows a blended learning format, combining online and in-person training:
Week 1 (19 Oct 2026 - 23 Oct 2026): Online training in relevant domains including experimental design, model systems, fundamental neurobiology, microsurgical techniques, research ethics. Introduction of Surgical Innovation Challenge.
Week 2 (26 Oct 2026 - 30 Oct 2026): In-person training in microsurgical skills using different model systems (micro-motor skills, microvascular surgery, precision dissections). Evaluation of Surgical Innovation Challenge.
Location: In-person at "Iuliu Hatieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
