The Tasmanian Government will move to consult on the reforms needed around long-term residencies in caravan parks.
Minister for Small Business and Consumer Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said owners and long-term residents of caravan parks currently need to navigate a complex range of legal issues including contractual, planning, building, property and other laws.
"Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we're working to strike a balance between supporting our visitor economy sector, private ownership rights, and housing affordability," Minister Ogilvie said.
"Concerns have been raised with various levels of government about the rights and responsibilities of owners and residents of Tasmanian caravan parks.
"The Government has listened to these concerns and I have asked the Department of Justice to prepare a Discussion Paper which examines the issues relating to long-term residency in caravan parks."
As part of this process, the Tasmanian Government will be seeking information on:
- Whether law reform is needed
- Potential governance arrangements for owners and residents
- Rights and obligations of owners and residents
- Dispute resolution mechanisms
- Any residential tenancy, building, public health or planning implications of potential law reform.
The Discussion Paper will be released for public consultation in August and will be made available on the Department of Justice's Community Consultations webpage (www.justice.tas.gov.au/community-consultation).
Minister Ogilvie said the Government looks forward to hearing the views of all affected Tasmanians through the consultation period.
