Tasmanians encouraged to register their interest to participate in Disability Services Act review

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Disability Services

The Tasmanian Government is committed to making Tasmania a place where people with disability are empowered and supported to reach their full potential.

The Disability Services Act 2011 has provided a strong foundation for the provision of disability services in Tasmania.

However, the Act is now 10 years old and many things have changed including the introduction of the NDIS, which is why Communities Tasmania has now commenced a project to review the DSA.

As a Government, we want to create a piece of legislation that provides a contemporary vision for a safe and inclusive Tasmania for people with disability.

To achieve this, we need to hear from people with disability, as well as their families, carers, advocates, disability support providers, and the Tasmanian community.

We are committed to ensuring that our processes are as flexible as possible to maximise the opportunities for participation, with expert input being sought to ensure the consultation is appropriately designed and inclusive.

Consultation with stakeholders will consider how the DSA is working, what isn't needed anymore and what needs improvement and how we can achieve better outcomes around inclusion, quality and safeguarding.
