Tasmanians Suffering from Broken Power Promises

Tasmanian Labor

The lack of concern for the truth displayed by the Liberals as they double-down on Guy Barnett's blatant lies about their policy to exit the National Electricity Market (NEM) is an insult to Tasmanians.

In Parliament today, both the Energy Minister and Premier again refused to acknowledge what has been established as fact:

  • The Liberals had a policy to delink from the NEM in 2018
  • Guy Barnett lied on state-wide radio last week telling Tasmanians the Liberals never had such a policy.

Tasmanian are paying mainland power prices because of this broken promise and now the Liberals are falsely pretending they never made the commitment in the first place.

Guy Barnett and the Liberals have clearly been caught out trying to tell a lie to cover up a lie.

Tasmanians are literally paying the price for this broken power promise, with households and businesses to be slugged an extra $50 million a year because the Liberals have failed to put Tasmanians first.

Following on from the disgraceful conduct of Madeleine Ogilvie and Mark Shelton in the last sitting week, this is just the latest lie adding to the Liberals' culture of dishonesty.
