Tasmanians to Reap Benefits from Fuel Excise Decision

Tasmanian Government

Premier Jeremy Rockliff has welcomed the Prime Minister's decision to halve the fuel excise, saying it will provide meaningful and immediate relief for Tasmanian households and businesses facing rising costs.

"The Prime Minister's agreement to reduce the fuel excise is a positive step that will make a genuine difference for families right across Tasmania," the Premier said.

"For many Tasmanians, especially those in regional areas who rely heavily on their vehicles, fuel costs are a significant part of weekly household expenses.

"Any reduction at the bowser will help ease pressure on family budgets and on businesses trying to manage higher operating costs."

Premier Rockliff said he had consistently called on the Federal Government to act to ease the impact of global fuel price pressures on Australians.

"I appreciate the Prime Minister listening to the concerns raised by Tasmania and other states and taking decisive action. This is a good example of different levels of government working together in the national interest," he said.

"While fuel prices are influenced by global factors beyond Australia's control, governments can and should step in where possible to provide practical relief.

"This measure will help commuters, families, freight operators and regional industries at a time when it's most needed."

The Premier said the Tasmanian Government would continue to strongly advocate for policies that support cost‑of‑living relief and economic stability for Tasmanians.

"Our focus remains firmly on standing up for Tasmanians and ensuring their voices are heard in national decisions that affect their day‑to‑day lives," Premier Rockliff said.
