Tasmania's Ambulance Crisis Revealed Once More

Australian Greens

The Greens have responded to revelations there's only one paramedic currently rostered to cover the entire area from Ouse to Burnie this long weekend.

"Revelations there's only one paramedic currently rostered to cover the entire area from Ouse to Burnie this long weekend are shocking, and another reminder of the shocking state of ambulance services in Tasmania.

"After a decade of the Liberals, Tassie's health system is a mess, and there's no greater example than ambulance services. Patients are being put at risk because too often there's no ambulance available when they need one, and staff are suffering as they try to pick up the pieces of a health system that's been neglected for far too long.

"Regional Tasmania deserves safe and reliable ambulance services, but instead we're seeing constant cases where there's just no paramedics available across huge parts of the state. The problem is worsened by ambulance ramping, where any crews that are working end up stuck in hospitals.

"The Greens are a strong voice for paramedics and for the community, particularly in rural and regional communities, and we're fighting for proper investment in ambulance services - including more staff, more stations, and an expanded fleet of vehicles. This is what regional Tasmania needs - not a billion-dollar stadium."
