Tassie tourism hits another record high

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

Premier and Minister for Tourism, Jeremy Rockliff has hailed the success of Tasmania's tourism industry with the latest data confirming visitors are spending in record amounts, supporting local jobs and our economy.

The Tasmanian Visitor Survey indicative data for the year ending December 2022 shows that visitor spending was $3.49 billion - the highest annual visitor spend on record, and smashing the original $2.5 billion target set in the T21 Visitor Economy Action Plan, following the impact of COVID-19.

"Tasmania's tourism industry is world-class, and these fantastic results are a credit to the experiences and locations on offer, and to the people working in them," the Premier said.

"Every dollar spent by visitors to Tasmania adds to our economy, especially in our regions, meaning more to reinvest into health, housing, education, and transformational infrastructure to set our State up for decades to come.

"Importantly, the increased expenditure is largely being driven by domestic holiday visitors, thanks in no small part to our investments in Tourism Tasmania's Come Down For Air and Off Season campaigns that are supporting year round visitation to the State.

"Our tourism industry is one of the key pillars of our economy that supports thousands of Tasmanians and businesses around the State, many in regional areas, and we will continue to do all we can to keep the momentum going and grow the industry even further.

"We also continue to finalise the 2030 Visitor Economy Strategy that will set the long-term vision for Tasmania's visitor economy, while outlining key actions the Government and industry will take to shape the industry's future."
