A taxi driver has been charged after allegedly failing to stop when a passenger fell from his taxi while driving in Jannali earlier this month, NSW Police say.
About 3.30am on Saturday 6 May 2017, a taxi picked up two passengers from outside a hotel on Murray Street, Pyrmont.
About 4.15am, a short time after dropping one of the passengers off, the second passenger, a 25-year-old man reportedly fell out of the rear passenger door onto Novara Crescent, while the taxi was driving on the road.
The driver of the taxi allegedly failed to stop and render assistance to the man and drove from the scene.
A passing motorist stopped and contacted emergency services.
Ambulance paramedics treated the man before taking him to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced investigations into the incident.
yesterday, the alleged driver of the taxi, a 30-year-old man, attended Campsie Police Station where he was arrested.
He was charged with fail to stop after impact causing grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and fail to exchange particulars and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Thursday 1 June 2017.
