Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards Honour Exceptional Teachers

Teachers, principals and support staff have been honoured for the outstanding work they do at the annual Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards, held at Parliament House last night.

Educators from across the Territory attended the awards ceremony in Darwin, which was also streamed live to functions in Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy, Katherine and Tennant Creek.

The Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate the contribution of NT Government school teachers, principals, leaders and support staff to quality education.

Each region has a winner for each category, as well as an overall NT winner.

The winners in the 2018 Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards are:

  • Northern Territory Principal of the Year Lorraine Evans, Malak Primary School, Darwin region

  • Northern Territory School Leader of the Year Emma Pedersen, Ramingining School, Arnhem region

  • Northern Territory Primary Teacher of the Year Mollie Teale, Yuendumu School, Alice Springs region

  • Northern Territory Secondary Teacher of the Year Hayley Walker, Jilkminggan School, Katherine region

  • Northern Territory Aboriginal Educator of the Year Jamahl Hayes, Centralian Middle School, Alice Springs region

  • Northern Territory Special Educator of the Year Raylee Parker, Henbury School, Darwin region

  • Northern Territory Vocational Education Trainer of the Year Peter Williams, Jabiru Area School, Palmerston and Rural region

  • Northern Territory Education Support Person of the Year Jaylene McArthur, Tennant Creek Primary School, Barkly region

As noted by Minister for Education, Selena Uibo.

The Territory Labor Government is investing in our education system with this years record, $1.14 billion budget, to create lasting generational change for our children.

We know we cannot achieve it without our passionate, dedicated teachers, who work so tirelessly in this extraordinary profession.

I congratulate all the winners and nominees in last nights awards, but also say thanks to all our teachers on World Teachers Day, for doing their best for our kids.
