Teen Arrested After PolAir Chase to Glenelg

A learner driver has been arrested after failing to stop for police at Reynella this evening.

Just before 7pm on Monday 11 May, Southern District officers were travelling north on the Southern Expressway when they were overtaken by a speeding BMW sedan. When police attempted to stop the vehicle, it failed to stop and continued north towards the western suburbs.

Patrols followed the sedan from a distance, with the police helicopter deployed to assist.

The BMW was tracked by PolAir travelling north along Brighton Road, where it is alleged the driver continued to exceed the speed limit as he continued north along Tapleys Hill Road.

The vehicle stopped briefly at a service station on Military Road, West Beach, before travelling south towards Glenelg.

Police successfully deployed road spikes on Patawalonga Frontage Road, and again on Adelphi Terrace, as the sedan continued towards Anzac Highway.

As the driver turned onto Colley Terrace at Glenelg, officers moved in and arrested him at about 7.25pm. A subsequent search of the boy's backpack allegedly revealed a quantity of MDMA, cannabis, resealable bags and scales.

The driver, a 17‑year‑old boy from Morphett Vale, was charged with multiple offences including trafficking a controlled drug, failing to stop for police, and contravening conditions of his licence. He was bailed to appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on 24 June.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the BMW is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or free call 1800 333 000, quoting reference 124905.
