Teen charged after aggravated robbery in East Maitland

A teenager has been charged after an aggravated robbery in East Maitland.

About 9.50pm (Saturday 12 January 2019), two boys, aged 17 and 15, were walking across the footbridge at Victoria Street train station when they were approached by a group of youths who threatened them.

The group then stole property from the pair and the younger boy was assaulted, causing facial injuries.

Police were called and attended, about 1.40am (Sunday 13 January 2019), they arrested a 14-year-old boy after a foot pursuit.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with aggravated robbery.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at East Maitland Children's Court on Friday 18 January 2019.

Inquiries to locate the other offenders continue.
